Takoma Village

Takoma Village was completed in phases with the first move-in in November of 2000 with most completed by January of 2001. We have 43 attached units that along with the commonhouse form a U-shape with a piazza in the curve by the entrance to the CH and a green between the open ends.

Legally we are a condominium and our units range from a 722 SF one-bedroomw with a den to a four-bedrooms with a den and full basement. Some are town-houses with porches and others flats and duplexes, some with balconies, decks, and small patios. We have one parking space per household, a luxury in the city.

Our Common House contains a large dining/meeting room, professional-sized kitchen, kids room, living/TV room, laundry, office, workshop, and game room. There are basements under parts of the building used for common storage and storage by residents who own small plots.

We are one of the few urban cohousing communities. That brings to us all the amenities of a big city: easy access to pubic transportation, major museums, theater, dance, music, fine shopping, and parks. In spite of the generally poor school system, there are many school choices, which include bilingual charter schools.

In 2010 we will celebrate our first decade with 65 adult residents and 21 children.

That’s just the facts—please see the links above for more information.
